Using Clear Tubes
The
implementation of the third inquiry involved the children expanding on
the exploration of the big idea "Where did it go?" The intention was to
study the motion and direction of a object going through a clear tube.
The children wanted to study where the object went when it was in the
tube and by using clear tubes they were able to see the object travel
down the tube and out. In this activity children used their hand eye
coordination to put the marble in the tube, while holding the tube with
their other hand. Some of the children held the pipe too tight and
caused the marble to stop rolling down the tube. Children wondered why
the marble was not going down and then figured out they needed to loosen
their grip on the tube. Some of the concepts children learned during
this activity include the concept of motion, cause and effect, and
directionality.
