Roles In The Community: Construction Cars at the Soil Table
Week of March 2, 2014
This lesson plan is
based on the children’s prior experiences working together on puzzles and other
construction activities. The children
have become very comfortable collaborating ideas and thinking as construction
workers. Here, the children continued to use these skills in efforts to become
familiar with the cars and machines that construction workers use and how these
tools are important to the jobs and responsibilities that construction workers
have. The focus of this activity was for the children to create dramatic play
scenarios using the cars to represent different construction jobs. Together,
the children came up with many different ideas and uses for the cars.
The children used
the materials provided to work together and independently to explore the
different ways each car could be used. The children were interested in moving
the dirt from one place to another, doing so using the dump trucks and tractors.
The children were able to name some of the different cars without being told
what they were called. (Ex: dump truck, tractor, cement truck) Following this
lesson, we are going to begin working as a group to plan and design a structure
to be built in the classroom by looking at blueprints.
