Week of March 3, 2014
This week we created family portraits. I took the children
two at a time to the table. If they had a family picture we grabbed it from the
shelf. We then sat at the table with a large piece of white paper, and markers
were in a bucket nearby. First I asked the children who was in their family.
They all told me and I wrote the names on the paper. They were then given time
to draw their family pictures. The children who did have family photos kept
them nearby as a reference. As they were drawing I noticed the children were
concentrating very hard. They seemed proud when they were finished drawing. The
children who had their family photos in class were overjoyed, and after they
were done drawing kept them close by, and took the photo to the other center so
their families could play with them. I think the children liked having their
families close while interacting in school activities.
After doing the family portrait activity I was excited to
learn who was in each of the children’s families. Many of them have siblings
which is very exciting because now we can incorporate the brother and sister
role. In the Next few weeks we will be talking about what jobs the different
people in our family do. We will be acting out different scenarios and deciding
roles all of the people in our families. Next week we will be going on a
grocery shopping exploration, and talking about healthy and not so healthy
foods.
