Reading to Babies

Week of February 10, 2014

This week we explored reading to babies and talking about the importance of reading. The babies, books and foam letters were readily available at the green carpet. The children came to explore the materials and picking up the babies. They were looking through the new books and naming the letters as they picked each one of them up. The children were reading the books to themselves with the babies close and dear. We talked about who reads to us, and the children told me mom and dad. We also talked about how reading is important. The children told me that reading helps learn letters.

We have done a lot of explorations with babies and caring for them. The children have been extremely engaged taking on the role as caregivers. In the upcoming weeks we will be focusing on our families and the different people that we live with. We will also be talking about where we live and what houses look like. I think these upcoming explorations will help the children discover family roles and the importance of their role in the family.
