What Food Do You Like to Eat at Home?
Week of March 24, 2014
Children have been talking a lot about
the things they eat at home and what their mommies and daddies make for them to
eat at home. This week, children used
model magic to create representations of the food they like to eat at
home. After Rami created a birthday
cake, the children joined in singing “Happy Birthday to You” and proceeded to
blow out the candles. Other children
enjoyed creating “pancakes” as they tried to flatten their model magic. Children were also interested in just
stretching the model magic as far as they could until it broke. Some mentioned it looked like “spaghetti”
when stretched like this.
As
the semester begins to come to an end, I would like to reflect on the various
roles and ideas children have been learning about when it comes to restaurants
and food. Next week, I plan on setting
up an area for children which replicates an actual restaurant. Who will take on the role of the chef to cook
the food? Who will be the waiter or
waitress who will bring the food to the customer? Who will be the customer who orders from the
menu?
